James Doar Wright, 81, passed peacefully from his earthly life on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital. He was born June 20, 1932 in Columbia, SC, the son of the late Homer Neel and Minnie Doar Wright. Also remembered is his daughter, Paula Wright who preceded James in death.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Dorothy W. Wright; son, James D. Wright, Jr.; daughter,Jennifer Wright; step-children, Harry Burnett (Jamie), Kim Butler (Tony) and Lisa Statler (Gary); nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Neel Wright, Jr. (Vivian); and many extended family and friends.

After retiring from Wilmington Fertilizer Company, James embarked on a second career with Chemserv Terminals. For many years he was a member of Sunset Park Baptist Church. James served his country honorably in the US Navy.

James loved his family above all else. He enjoyed fishing, the beach, World War II books, and NASCAR racing. With his exuberant personality, James loved to joke, laugh and make others feel happy. His constant companion was his Boston Terrier, Annie. James leaves a legacy to family and friends of faith, love, laughter and caring.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmie Mintz officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
