Janice "Jan" Jurs Bell, age 79, of Burgaw died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at her home.

She was born on May 19, 1928 in Cascade, Wisconsin to Benjamin and Vivian Clark Jurs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lacy M. Bell, Jr. and her sister, Kay J. Hodges.

Mrs. Bell served proudly in the US Navy where she met and married the love of her life, Lacy Bell. They shared a wonderful and happy marriage for 51 years. Jan was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Next to her family Jan dearly loved her Tuesday and Thursday bridge games and her cherished friends that she has played with for many years. Jan was known for her quick wit, engaging smile and her joyful spirit. She was loved and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Bell was a member of Burgaw Presbyterian Church and worked for thirty years as bookkeeper for Pender Gas and Oil Company.

Surviving are her son, Lacy "Tripp" M. Bell III and his wife, Connie of Currie; daughter, Mary Kay Williams and her husband, Jeffrey, of Topsail Beach; grandchildren, Ashley Bell and his wife, Shanna, Hanna Bell, Nealie Williams and Jeffrey Williams; great grandchildren, Aly Bell and Malya Bell; brother, David Jurs and wife, Barbara, of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Fellowship Hall of Burgaw Presbyterian Church, one hour prior to the memorial service.

A memorial service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Burgaw Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating.

Inurnment will follow in Burgaw Cemetery.
