Nov 6, 1943 — Apr 4, 2023
Janice Newton Benson, age 79, of Rose Hill, NC left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Ms. Benson was born on November 6, 1943, in Sampson County, NC; the daughter of the late James Lewis and Grace Wilson Newton. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jane Wilson Newton and Geneva Newton Roberts.
Ms. Benson was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Rose Hill.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Kimberly Renee Davis and her husband, Bradley of Puyallup, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Janice dearly.
Janice was a kind and loving mother who loved her family with all her heart. She was a strong, courageous and yet gentle woman who brought out the good in all those who were near and dear to her. Janice was valedictorian of her high school class and after graduation, she attended UNC Chapel Hill where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She was so proud to be a 'Tarheel'. An avid sportsperson, Janice enjoyed watching football, but mostly she enjoyed college basketball. During her school years she was point guard on the school's basketball team. Janice was blessed to have the opportunity to travel all over the world and see the many sights. After traveling she settled in Washington State (1981) and remained there until 1998. Janice then moved to Rose Hill to be close to her family. She enjoyed going to church and eating out. Janice was a blessing to her church and community. She will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Janice.
There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with Pastor Brian Doles officiating.
