Jay Woodcock, age 83 of Atkinson died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.
He was born February 24, 1924 in Atkinson, the son of the late John H. and Esther Horrell Woodcock. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Mary Bell Johnson, Eloise Bitto, Lydia Droze, Cecil Woodcock, and Edward E. "Man" Woodcock.
Mr. Woodcock was a retired Pender County farmer and charter member of Atkinson Fire Department. He was a faithful member of Atkinson Baptist Church where he was head usher emeritus and had served as a deacon, church trustee and in many other capacities.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Louise D. Woodcock; son, Richard Woodcock; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dale Norris; grandchildren, Brandon and Rebecca Norris; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Atkinson Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Atkinson Baptist Church with The Rev. Douglas Warnock, Sr. and The Rev. Jerome Bullard, Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Brandon Norris, Jack Turner, Jason Turner, David Harrell, Phil Horrell, and Jerry Boone.
Honorary bearers will be George Highsmith, Jr., Charles Ward Highsmith, Dr. George Wells, Bruce Williams and members of Atkinson Fire Department.
Memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, 2222 S. 17th St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
