Jean Braxton Cole, 94, formerly of Kinston, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Bradley Creek Health Center in Wilmington, NC.

She was born April 25, 1927 in Pitt County, NC to the late Walter Thurman Braxton and Martha Moye Braxton.

Jean was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Kinston, NC. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a bright light to many people and will be dearly missed.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Judy Humbles Bass (Edward) and Jo Anne Humbles Suomala (Donald); grandchildren, Wendy Kennedy, Leslee Potter, and Brandon Bass; great-grandchild, Joseph Dickens; step-grandchildren, Lisa Fisher and Angela Bass.

Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen V. Humbles; second husband, George L. Cole; brother, Walter Braxton, Jr.; and grandchild, Adam Potter.

A graveside service will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2pm. Visitation with friends will be held after the service.
