Jennie Harris Rhodes, age 100, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home.

She was born November 6, 1909 in Roxboro, one of thirteen children of John William and Lucy Mae Bowes Harris. Also remembered are her husband, Olen K. Rhodes, Sr.; son, Olen K. Rhodes, Jr. and her brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughters, Jennie Elizabeth Beaver and Lillian Ann Summerlin both of Burgaw; grandchildren, Bryan Summerlin and Wayne Summerlin; great grandchildren, Christopher, Carrie Helen, Carley, David, and Brandon; one great great grandson, Shane; sister, Irene Robinson of Roxboro and many nieces and nephews.

Jennie loved her family, friends and above all her Lord. Loving the outdoors, she grew her own vegetables and flowers until several years ago. She was blessed to keep her keen sense of humor and sharp mind until the very end. Jennie spent her 100 years on this earth with kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness for others. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, steadfast faith in God and her sweet, sweet reassuring smile will forever be remembered.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Elder Virgil Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Onslow Memorial Park.

Casketbearers will be Brian Rhodes, Stacy Rhodes, Jim Evitt, Jimmy Lee Rhodes, Henry Rhodes and Paul Rhodes.

The family will receive friends 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Monday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
