Jesse John Cartwright, 79, of Watha passed from his earthly life Monday, November 25, 2019 at his home surrounded with love by his family.

He was born May 14, 1940 and was a native of the Weeksville Community in Pasquotank County. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Maude Bateman Cartwright; grandparents, Jesse and Fannie Cartwright and John and Lottie Bateman; brothers and their spouses, Roy T. and Carol Cartwright, and CD and Maxine Cartwright; stepson, Lin Hewett; great grandson, Brent Ritterbusch; nephews, Talmadge and Dean Cartwright; daughter Crystal's fiancé, Mike Murphy. Lovingly remembered aunts, Hazel, Virginia, Sallie, and Gracie; and dear friends, Ernest Cartwright and Bobby Bell.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jo Ann Cartwright (December 13, would have been their anniversary); daughters, Darlene Bennett (Todd) of Elgin, SC, Crystal Cartwright of Allen, TX, and Gena Hewett Wells (Mike) of Willard; grandchildren, Zachary Lilly (BJ) of Talbott, TN, Courtney Lilly (Jake) and her daughter, Adelynne of Princeton, TX; Jessica Wells Ritterbusch and her children, Trey, Christian and Lauren, Samantha Wells Pierce (Earl) and their daughter, Elena; and several nieces, nephews and extended family all who loved Jesse.

He was a long time faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church.

Jesse John was a honest hardworking good man who was loved and respected by so many. He not only taught us how to live but set excellent examples by the Christian life that he lived daily.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Forest Hills Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Pastor Timothy Cook will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
