Jewel Watson Johnson, age 70, of Wilmington passed from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

She was born August 17, 1941 in Bladen County, the daughter of Homer Wilson Watson and Lois Jones Watson Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Moody Johnson.

Jewel is survived is her loving family; her son, Paul Wayne Johnson (Toni) of Wilmington; granddaughter, Michelle Johnson; sisters, Hilda Hollis of Atkinson, Hazel Crane (Charles) of Winchester, KY and Daphne Spivey (William) of Atkinson; brother, Homer Donnie Watson of Wilmington and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jewel was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church.

Jewel, a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend loved her family dearly. She found great joy in the simplest things, but her greatest joy was family, especially her granddaughter, Michelle. She was a lover of flowers, bowling and all of God's beautiful creations. With her warm heart and gentle spirit she was a good neighbor and friend. She will be remembered for her generous nature, her love for family and friends and her steadfast faith in God.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Odell Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Hollis-Anderson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until hour of the service.
