Jimmy Davis Thornton, age 67, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Friday, July 31, 2015.
He was born February 29, 1948 in Sampson County, the son of the late William Burnice and Ada Louise Thornton. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Howard Thornton and Harvey Thornton and his sister, Judy Lee.
Jimmy was a long time member of Oak Dale Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 22 years, Shirley Brown Thornton; step-children, Sheila Hohnsbehn and husband, Arthur of Garner, Brenda Raynor and husband, Heber of Beulaville, Linwood Henderson and wife, Karren and Danny Henderson and wife, Sherry, all of Wallace; step-grandchildren, Daniel Raynor, Megan Henderson, Baillie Henderson, Tyler Hohnsbehn and Jacob Raynor; step great grandchildren, Emma Raynor, Landin Raynor and Payton Henderson; brothers, Glenn Ray Thornton and wife, Marie of Burgaw, Robert Sherrille Thornton and wife, Peggy Mae of Wallace; sisters, Carrie Inez McClenny of Clinton and Janice Powell of Wilmington; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends that loved Jimmy dearly.
Jimmy was a devoted husband and caring step-father, brother and uncle. He enjoyed the simplest things in life but his greatest joy was family. Being a man of compassion and kindness, he was always willing to lend helping hands to neighbors, friends and family. Jimmy had a deep, private relationship with God and demonstrated his faith in the way he lived his life. Always with a smile on his face, he loved to laugh and make others laugh also. Jimmy enjoyed using the cell phone. His favorite pastime was calling people to check on them and/or to deliver any news he thought they needed to be aware of. His favorite words were "It's a mess". He loved his Lord and his family above all else. Jimmy will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
