Jo Ann Abrams Horrell, 64, of Atkinson passed gently from her earthy life to her heavenly eternal rest on the wings of her angel on May 13, 2011 at her home with family by her side.

She was born August 6, 1946 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late William Mark and Loetta Ricker Abrams.

Lovingly remembered, Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roland Thomas "Tommy" Horrell; sons, Ricky Horrell (Sherry) and Nick Horrell (Christine) all of Atkinson; grandchildren, Ethan Horrell, Brianna Horrell and Nicholas Horrell; sister, Addie Peterson and brother, Mark Abrams both of Wilmington.

Jo Ann was a faithful member of Atkinson Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and several Christmases ago Jo Ann requested a prayer box for Christmas, which when received she used on a daily basis. Jo Ann was retired after working 31 years with International Paper Co.

Loving her family beyond measure, Jo Ann was a devoted wife and the best mama, Mimi and sister anyone could ask for. She lived her life with the same courage, strength and faith that she fought her battle with lung cancer. Always with a smile on her face and a kind word to greet you, she set a positive example for her children and grandchildren to follow. She was a strong, courageous yet gentle lady who brought out the good in all those near and dear to her. Jo Ann will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love, faith and hope will always be remembered.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Atkinson Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly and The Rev. Douglas Warnock officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
