Obituary

Jo Ann Gainey Rackley, 71, of Watha passed from her earthly life on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born September 30, 1940 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Malcolm E. Gainey, Sr. and Lillian Brogan Gainey.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lewis Heber Rackley; son, William C. Benton, Jr. (Teresa) of Leland; daughter, Teresa "Sissie" Horrell Orr of Currie; step-children, Judy Mae Ayers of Barnwell, SC, Carl Rackley (Agnes) of Watha, Marilyn Rackley of Currie and Monty Rackley (Marilyn) of Leland; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and brothers, Malcolm E. Gainey, Jr. of Winnabow and Charles F. Gainey (Laura) of Wilmington.

Jo Ann was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Jo Ann loved all of her family with caring devotion, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Loving all of God's wonders of this world, Jo Ann always looked forward to vacationing in the mountains. Being an excellent cook, Jo Ann could quickly whip up a delicious meal for family and friends. Through several years of declining health Jo Ann always kept the faith. Her joyful spirit, her beautiful smile and her caring manner will forever be remembered.

Graveside funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Merrell McKoy, Jr. officiating.
