Currie-Joan Isabella Brooks, age 64, left her earthly life on Friday, November 5, 2010 to be with her Lord and Savior in her eternal Heavenly home.

She was born July 2, 1946 in Farmington, Maine, the daughter of the late Richard and Luella Gordon Currier. Also lovingly remembered is her daughter, Shannon Jones.

Left to cherish Joan's memory are her beloved husband of 35 years, Robert Brooks of the home; loving daughters, Rebecca D. Thompson (Tom) of Summerville, South Carolina and Dawn Jacobson of Wilmington; 12 adored grandchildren and sister, Sandra Distefano of Harrison, Maine; and many extended family and friends who loved Joan dearly.

Joan was a faithful member of Burgaw Holiness Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her precious family and all of nature that God created. Joan was a very determined lady and proudly received her high school diploma at the age of 50. Joan's gentle spirit, warm heart and special smile will always be remembered.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Burgaw Holiness P.F.W.B. Church with Pastor Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington.

Casketbearers will be James Godbey, Charles Jones, Jr., Travis Jones, Tom Thompson, Billy Sebrell and Roman Long.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
