Jodie Wilson Lanier, 77, of Thomasville and formerly of Rose Hill left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from High Point Regional Hospital.

He was born May 30, 1935 in Duplin County, the son of the late Jodie Wilson Lanier, Sr. and Viva Lanier. He was also predeceased by his brother, Jesse Frank Lanier; half brothers, Tim Aikens, Tom Aikens and Claude Aikens; sisters, Josephine Jarman and Dessie Williams.

Mr. Lanier was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and loving wife of 49 years, Sadie Murphy Lanier; daughter, Cindy L. Cavanaugh and husband, Roland of Thomasville; sisters, Edna Ray Hatcher of Burgaw and Janie Edwards of Beulaville and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

J.W., as he was affectionately known, was a devoted husband and loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was family. A man of great integrity, J.W. lived his life humbly before God and his fellowman. With his warm smile and loving spirit, he was loved by everyone that met him. J.W. will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be at 11:00am on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jimmy and Geraldine Creech.

Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be sent to Bethel Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 2635 S. NC Hwy 11, Rose Hill, NC 28458.
