Obituary

It is with sad hearts we share the passing of Jody Dean Woodcock, age 52, in Tampa, Florida on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Jody was born October 21, 1971 in Wilmington, the son of Mary Bigford Woodcock and the late Arthur Glenn Woodcock.

In addition to his mother, Jody is survived by his wife, Michelle Embler Woodcock; son, Wesley Woodcock; daughter, Kaylee Woodcock; stepson, Austin Murray (Sydnie); granddaughter, Tommie Murray; sisters, Sylvia W. Jeffcoat (Wayne), Donna W. Carter, and Michelle "Missy" W. White; many nieces and nephews who thought the world of Jody, including special niece, Lynn Mesimer (Monty); and numerous friends.

Jody graduated from Pender High School Class of 1990 and continued his education at Cape Fear Community College receiving his Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification.

Jody, a man of many talents, could do most anything he tackled and was known as a "Jack of all trades." For 23 years he worked for Pender County Sheriff Department finishing his law career as a Sergeant. For seven years he worked for Pender Plumbing and currently was working as Director of Engineering for Aloft Hotel at Wilmington Coastline Center. On the side of his regular job, being the entrepreneur that Jody was he started several small local businesses to help grow the Atkinson community.

Jody was all about community serving one term as Alderman for Town of Atkinson and for many years was a member of Atkinson Volunteer Fire Department.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loving being outdoors in God's beautiful world of nature. Jody never met a stranger, enjoyed a good joke, and was forever helping others. All in all and most of all Jody loved his family. He was a good man, a loyal friend to many and will be truly missed.
