John Thurman Bannerman, Jr., age 59, of Burgaw died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at his residence.

He was born March 4, 1951 in Bennettsville, SC and was the son of the late John T. Bannerman, Sr. and Mary Rivenbark Bannerman Blalock.

Surviving are his loving family; sister, Carolyn B. Watkins and her husband, Gene, of Burgaw; brother, Gary C. Bannerman of Burgaw; and nieces, Maureen Watkins and Candi W. Simmons and her husband, Brandon.

John graduated in the Class of 1969 from Burgaw High School and then served his country honorably in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam Era.

He loved all of God's nature, especially his dog, Boots. Summer and winter, rain or shine, each day he fed the birds in his yard. He enjoyed the simple things in life; but family especially his nieces, Maureen and Candi, were his greatest joy. Cherished memories of John will forever remain in our hearts.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Mt. Holly Baptist Church with The Rev. David Brisson officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Carolyn and Gene Watkins.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Pender County Humane Society, PO Box 626, Burgaw, NC 28425.
