John "Jack" M.
Barnes, Jr.
Dec 25, 1921 — Sep 5, 2012
John Monroe Barnes Jr., better known as Jack, passed away on September 5, 2012. He was a good man; a loving husband to Joyce, his wife of 58 years; and a devoted father to four children: John, Randy, Larry and Donna.
Jack is preceded in death by sisters Martha, Nell, Rose and Ruth; a brother, Jim; and his devoted dog, Millie.
Millie was a good dog, serving her master even as his health began to fail. Now, they are together again, a reward they both richly deserve.
Jack loved fishing, spending many hours in his younger years with Joyce fishing from Johnnie Mercer's pier, swaying above the surf of Wrightsville Beach, long before concrete stole the soul from that landmark.
He loved flea markets and yard sales. Sunday mornings would find him searching somewhere for that next treasure, or at least the next bargain. Along the way, he made a friend of everyone he met. Jack knew no strangers, just friends he hadn't met yet.
In addition to his wife and children, Jack leaves behind those who will carry on his legacy, his grandchildren: Anna, Katie, Jackie, Meagan, Keith, Shepard and Anne Lassiter.
Dad, you will be missed.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Bradley Creek Chapel. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 PM Saturday.
