John "Pop" Thomas Casto, 65, of Currie passed peacefully from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 11, 1945 in Pender County to the late Virgil Earl and Rosa Mae Bradshaw Casto. Also remembered are his son, Carl "Bo" Futrell, Jr.; sister, Edith Katalinic and brother, Virgil Earl Casto, Jr.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Anna Brown Casto; children, James Franklin Futrell (Rosemary) and Betty Whaley (James) both of Kenansville; special nephew who was like a son, Harold Moore of Currie; daughter-in-law, Sharon Futrell of Magnolia; grandchildren, Bobbie, Christopher, Kelly, Joshua, Casey, and Austin; seven step-grandchildren; great granddaughter, Tristanie; two step-great grandsons; sisters, Ethel Mattison of Wilmington, Annie Bravi of Hollywood, Florida, Edna Spencer and Inez Madden both of Rocky Point; and many nieces and nephews.

John was retired after working 36 years with NC State Ports Authority. He served honorably in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam Era. He was an avid fisherman and in his younger years, hunter. Pop enjoyed the simple things in life, but most important was his family that he loved so dearly. He enjoyed yard sales, auctions and most of all his dog, Baby. Cherished memories of Pop will forever remain in our hearts.
