John Peter Henchenski, age 78, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.
He was born November 19, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of the late Peter John and Angela Nowicki Henchenski. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Schmidt and Joan Tardibuono and brother, Richard Henchenski.
Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-six years, Betty Smith Henchenski; children, Aline Poreba of Rocky Point, Sherri Henchenski of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, John P. Henchenski, Jr. of Wilmington, Robert Henchenski (Gail) of Laporte, Colorado, Jodi Williamson (Brian) of Rocky Point and Thomas Henchenski (Cindy) of Zion Grove, Pennsylvania; eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
John served his country honorably in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart. John was a faithful member of Rocky Point Baptist Church.
John was a devoted husband and loving daddy and granddaddy. First and foremost he loved and served the Lord, sharing the gospel and his strong faith with others. He was thoughtful of others, always putting the needs of family and friends before his own. He loved eating out, taking his grandchildren fishing and just being with family. His faith in God never wavered even during his illness. John's family is grateful to God for his life and for your kindness, friendship and prayers.
The family will receive friends 10:00 to 12 noon on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Rocky Point Baptist Church with The Rev. Ryan Minkler officiating.
