John Henry Cavenaugh, age 87, of Burgaw died Tuesday, June 2, 2011 at Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Centre.

He was born February 27, 1924 in Pender County and was the son of the late John Henry and Alma Rivenbark Cavenaugh. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Harris and Sadie Jordan and brothers, Felton Cavenaugh, Lawrence "Sambo" Cavenaugh and Larry Cavanaugh.

John is survived by his sister, Emily Postl of Warren, Michigan; brother, Eugene Cavenaugh; several nieces and nephews including Rodney Jordan of Burgaw.

He proudly served his country honorably in the US Army during WW II.

John loved his family in his own way and helped his family in a very quiet way. Being hearing impaired it was often hard for him to communicate with family and friends. John had a very strong will and much determination that carried him through a lengthy illness. John was loved and will be missed.

Graveside service and entombment will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum with The Rev. William Hill Pearsall officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the NC National Guard.
