John Joseph Knoerzer passed away quietly at home surrounded by loved ones on May 18, 2013. He was 87 years old. John was born on November 26, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to John Charles and Josephine Weingart Knoerzer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Grace Elizabeth Cosh Knoerzer, his sons, William John (Melinda) of Burgaw, NC and Alan Joseph (Lou Ann) of Port Orange, FL; his brother Louis Charles (Delores) of Wanchese, NC; grandchildren: Jeremy John Alan Knoerzer, Aaron John Knoerzer, Margaret "Meg" Grace Knoerzer, Staci (Dean) Loher, and Kevin Cusson; great grandchildren: Jason, Skylar, Matthew, Braden, Tyler and one on the way. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary (Ray) Henderson and Helen (Ralph) Hoffman.

John served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the US Army during WW II where he was an Expert Rifleman. After his military service he began a career as a dairy farmer and carpenter in Marathon, NY where he managed a 300 acre farm. After retirement, John and Grace they made their way to Burgaw, NC to live closer to family.

A private service will be held at the family's convenience.
