Obituary

John Henry Mott, 78, of Harrells retired to Glory on Monday, October 14, 2013 from UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.

He was born November 26, 1934 in Sampson County; the son of the late William Jennings and Odell Smith Mott. He was also predeceased by his brother, William Lee Mott.

Mr. Mott served his country honorably in the US Army and was a member of Center Baptist Church in Harrells.

Surviving to cherish his memories is his best friend and wife of 56 years, Doris Brown Mott; sons, Stephen Ryan Mott, John Gregory Mott and wife, Beverly, all of Harrells; grandchildren, Austin Mott and Kristen Mott; brothers, Bobby Mott and wife, Marilyn of Mocksville; J.W. Mott and wife, Linda of Harrells; sisters, Annie Lou Johnson of Clinton, Eva Mae Rogers, of Newton Grove, Nellie Ray Carter of Harrells, Carolyn Cox of Wilmington; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved John dearly.

John was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and brother who loved his family. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was family. Being a hard worker and a great provider for his family, John was always busy. He enjoyed bulldozer and backhoe work in the outdoors. Having more talents than one could name, John was a 'jack of all trades' and could do almost anything. He was a fun loving, generous man with a keen sense of humor that everybody loved and respected. With a genuine love for the Lord, he worshipped Christ by serving others. John will surely be missed but never forgotten by those who knew and love him.
