John Houston Sanders, beloved husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother, uncle and friend entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the age of 87. He was born March 18, 1935 in Wilmington to Jacob Atwood Sanders and Hazel Futch Sanders, living all of his full and blessed life in Hampstead.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John Houston "Bubba" Sanders, Jr.; brother, Allen Ray Sanders; and sister, Faye Sanders.

John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christine Ward Sanders; daughters, Karen Sanders Grausso (Tony) and Laura Faye Sanders (Demetrius Batts); grandchildren, Tianna, Michelle, Jaysha, William, Olivia, Serenity, and DJ; two great granddaughters; brother, Billy Sanders (Pam); and many extended family members. Not to be forgotten is John's canine companion, Chief, who was his protector and always by his side.

John will be remembered for his great sense of humor and making people smile at his many hunting and fishing stories. He loved being around family, and everyone knew you could find John drinking coffee and talking to his friends at Hardee's every morning.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Chaplain Miles Siler will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.
