John William Skinner, age 56, of Currie, NC and formerly of Williamsburg, IN lost his five month battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. During his illness and at the time of his passing John was residing with his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sherry Skinner in Currie, NC.

He was born June 8, 1956 in Wayne County and was the son of Ruby Skinner of Richmond, IN and the late John William Skinner who died in 2008. Also remembered is John's faithful companion "OZ", his cat, who preceded John in death.

In addition to his mother John is survived by his sisters, Dennisse Crumbaugh (Marty) of Waxhaw, NC and Traci Trotter (Pat) of Richmond, IN; his special brother, Gary and sister-in-law, Sherry of Currie, NC; and uncle, George Eldridge of Wingate, NC. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

After graduating from Northeastern High School in Indiana, John served his country honorably in the US Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Following his military tour of duty, John worked for a number of years as a truck mechanic.

John was a quiet, simple man who enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing, and hunting. He maintained a great love for his animals, but more importantly he treasured his family and friends. Cherished memories and fond stories of John will always remain in our hearts.

A celebration of John's life will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the home of Gary and Sherry Skinner, 219 Riverland Drive, Currie, NC 28435.

The family would like to thank their nurse, Patrice Marshburn, and the staff at Community Home Care & Hospice for their excellent care of John and loving support to the family during John's illness and passing.
