John LeRoy Smith, Jr., 87, of Kelly passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Davis Healthcare Center.

He was born September 28, 1925 in Bladen County, the son of the late John LeRoy Smith, Sr. and Marie Ellington Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Thomas "Tommie" Smith and son, John L. Smith III.

John is survived by his two nieces, Patricia S. Adams and Beverly S. Allen both of Wilmington; and many extended family and friends.

John was retired from General Electric Company, Nuclear Fuel Division in Wilmington. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

John loved his family and was a good neighbor and friend. He had a kind heart, a warm smile and a feisty sense of humor that could brighten any rainy day. John blessed the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Smith Family Cemetery with The Rev. Jack Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 08, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
