Obituary

John "Jack" Wesley Turnage, 79, of Wilmington and formerly of Farmville died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter, Wilmington.

He was born September 12, 1930 in Greenville, the son of the late Lester Earl Turnage, Sr. and Susanna Wesley Laughinghouse Turnage. Also remembered are his grandson, Wesley Turnage; great grandson, Woody Norris; brother, Lester Earl Turnage, Jr.; and former wife, Joyce Johnson Turnage.

Jack is survived by his son, Gregory Hal Turnage of Wilmington; daughters, Kay Norris of Tarboro and Gail Weil of Nags Head; five grandchildren, Michael Norris, Justin Norris, Josh Turnage, Chloe Turnage, and Niki Price; three great grandchildren, Jamie Norris, Kaleb Lee and Peyton Price; sister, Ann Turnage Hill of Sunbury and a special sister-in-law, Connie Carter.

Jack loved his family in his own special way and was loved in return. For many years he enjoyed fishing in God's beautiful rivers and streams. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His love of life, laughter, and caring for others will always be remembered.

The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. A graveside funeral service will follow on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery, 160 Camp Kirkwood Rd, Watha NC with The Rev. Jimmy Newkirk officiating.

Casketbearers will be Michael Norris, Justin Norris, David Turnage, Ed Turnage, Eric Carter and Robert Carter.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington,NC 28401.
