John Henry Wells, 91, of Watha passed peacefully from his earthly life on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Quinn Hospice Care Center with family by his side.
He was born April 22, 1921 in Pender County to Crumpler and Goldie Lanier Wells. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Johnson Wells; son, Johnny C. Wells; and brothers, Roy and Colton Wells.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn W. and Joseph B. Cannon of New Bern and Sylvia W. and Danny Raynor of Burgaw; grandsons, Johnny C. Wells II, Jason Raynor and Nicholas Raynor; sister, Bertha Wells and brother, Delmar Wells (Evelyn) both of Wilmington.
J. H. served his country honorably in the US Army during WW II. While in the military serving in the Philippines, he learned the art of yodeling which he continued all of his life. He was a skilled carpenter and a Pender County farmer for many years.
J. H. loved his family and was an excellent husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. Each year he grew a healthy garden and shared it with neighbors and in the fall he gathered his pecans which he also generously shared. Loving the outdoors, he enjoyed deer and bear hunting and fishing in the creek. J.H. had a great sense of humor which he maintained until the end of his earthly journey. A number of years ago J.H. accepted Jesus into his heart. J.H. was a man small in statue and great in heart who leaves many happy memories for us to cherish.
