John Wesley Corbett, age 52, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
He was born on February 20, 1969 in Burgaw, NC. Wesley was preceded in death by his father, Bayard Z. Corbett, and is survived by his mother, Lillian Hall Corbett, who has devoted her life to him for many years.
Wesley had a true love for his family. He never met a stranger and was always outgoing and friendly. Wesley's love of trains was well known, especially to the staff at Just Train Fun at Independence Mall who were so understanding and let him be the train conductor. His innocence and passion for trains put a smile on many people's faces. Wesley will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his mother, Wesley is survived by his brothers, Robert B. Corbett and Greg D. Corbett; sisters, Brenda C. Crooke and Debbie C. Peacock and husband, Gary; special uncle, Turner Rivenbark and his family; nieces, Jennifer Peacock and husband, Chad Young, and Jessica Smith and husband, Ken; nephews, Brian Corbett and wife, Kelly, Tim Corbett and wife, Claire, Adam Corbett and wife, Tracy, and Eric Peacock and wife, Jennifer; and great nieces and nephews, Corbin Peacock, Emma Peacock, Anna Corbett, Nathan Corbett, John Corbett, Lincoln Smith and Padraig Young.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.
A private family graveside service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Currie, NC on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2pm with Pastor Ken Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable contributions in memory of Wesley may be made to Meals on Wheels: New Hanover County.
