Obituary

Johnnie Clarence Rivenbark, 86, of Wallace completed his earthly life's journey on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Vidant Duplin Hospital with family holding his hand.

He was born February 19, 1926 in Pender County, the son of the late John David Rivenbark and Lennie Buckner Rivenbark Hines.

Johnnie Clarence is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Annie Helen Sholar Rivenbark; daughters, Cathy R. Bowen (Jimmy) of Willard and Diane R. Blanton (Roy) of Teachey; grandchildren, Stephen B. Bowen, Jeridith P. Blanton (Andrea) of Teachey, Tara B. Murphy (Mike) of Watha and Darrell L. Blanton (Amber) of Wallace; great grandchildren, Eric Murphy, Tyler Blanton and Brady Blanton; sister-in-law, Shirley Rivenbark of Wallace; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends, all who dearly loved Clarence.

He served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. Johnnie Clarence and his brother, Harris, owned and operated Sports and Hardware Center/Radio Shack/TrueValue Hardware in Wallace for over 40 years. Clarence was a faithful member of Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and in many other capacities for many years. Recently as his health permitted he attended Willard P.F.W.B. Church.

Johnnie Clarence was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. With a genuine love and concern for the needs of his family, he was a great provider who always made sure his family had everything they needed and most of what they wanted. He lived his life based on Christian principles and instilled these values in his children and grandchildren. His word was his bond and his advice priceless. Being dedicated first to the Lord, then to his family, Johnnie spent most of his life looking out for the best interest of his church and his family. His favorite pastime was sitting in his recliner or outside in his chair watching others pass by. Johnnie Clarence will be remembered for his love and devoted to his family and friends and his steadfast faith in God. He lived by a simple creed: Do justice, love your neighbor and walk humbly with God. Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.
