Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Miley Eason, Jr., 73, of Wallace passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 from Vidant Duplin Hospital.

He was born on July 14, 1947 in Wake County; the son of the late Joseph M. Eason, Sr. and Theresa Ann Poole Eason. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Eason Pane.

Joe was a Scout Master for Wallace Troop 35 for over 25 years.  During this time, he received the Silver Beaver Award and multiple times he served as Wood Badge Course Director.  Joe was an Eagle Scout Board of Review Chairman for many years and received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for his services with Boy Scouts of America.  He was a dedicated member of Shadetree Motorcycle Club.

Surviving is his best friend and beloved wife of 52 years, Walda Welsh Eason of the home; his sons, Michael Welsh Eason and wife, Allison of Hampstead, Matthew Aaron Eason of Castle Hayne, and Patrick McClain Eason and wife, Lauren of Fort Mills, SC; grandsons, Davis Welsh Eason and Andrew Crawford Eason; nieces, Kimberly Ayers and Beth Osmon; nephew, Joseph Pane; and numerous extended family and friends that loved and respected Joe dearly.

Joe, as he was affectionately called, was a wonderful loving husband and great father, grandfather, and uncle. He found great joy in many activities of life, but his greatest joy and priority was his family. Joe was a great provider and hard worker. He was employed with GE in the Nuclear and Aviation Divisions for a combined 39 years.  To say Joe was an avid scouter, would be putting it lightly.  He loved the Boy Scouts and trained many young boys, including his own, to become great men through the Scouts.  Joe served as a model of the American spirit; giving willingly of himself to benefit these young men and our society.  Joe never met a stranger. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends and being a part of the Shadetree Motorcycle Club. During his life Joe acquired numerous scouting friends and motorcycle friends from all over the world.  Joe did not take these friends for granted.  He loved everyone and was loved in return. Joe was a happy, 'love you unconditional' man who loved his family and friends and would do anything he could for anyone. The older Joe got the more active he became.  He loved to live life to its fullest.  Always full of energy, Joe always took time to play with his grandsons, Davis and Drew, who were the 'apple of his eyes'.  All in all, Joe was a self-sacrificing man who love others and were respected by his friends and family.  Joe will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and met Joe Eason.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, Joe's family will have a private family service.
