Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Carroll Casteen, age 70, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Tuesday, April 20, 2020 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born on November 25, 1949 in Duplin County; son of the late Norman Carroll Casteen and Grace Lane Swinson Casteen.

Joe served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. After serving his country, he went to work with Brown's Builders Supply in Rose Hill.  He worked with Brown's for 36 years. Joe loved his job and his "Brown's" family.  He acquired many friends during his many years at Brown's.

Joe is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 19 years, June Darden Casteen of the home; his children, Brian Carroll Casteen and wife, Holly of Rose Hill, Crystal Sue Casteen of Oak Island, Jacob Leamon Rivenbark of Wallace; grandchildren, Sadie Claire Casteen, Stokes Drew Casteen, Derek Joseph Casteen, Brennon Taylor Lewis and Kaiden Leamon Rivenbark; sister, Grace Marie Kuenstler and husband, George of Wilmington; and numerous extended family and friends that loved Joe dearly.

Joe was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a simple man who worked hard and provided for his family.  In his younger days, Joe liked to fish. As he got older he enjoyed grilling, mowing grass and manicuring his yard.  Joe was very proud of his children and grandchildren and he simply adored June.  He was quiet, humble, soft hearted man who was loved and respected; a perfect gentleman, a listener and a friend to all.  Among all of these characters, Joe still had a witty personality and could make one laugh and feel at ease in his presence.  He was a fan of Washington Red Skins and NC State.  Joe will surely be missed but treasured memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

There will be a private family graveside service for Joe at Rose Hill Cemetery.
