Obituary

Joseph Hanson "Hank" McGowen, age 75, of Watha, left this life for his eternal rest on Monday, February 24, 2014 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born November 29, 1938 in Pender County and was the son of the late Joseph and Charlotte Jones McGowen. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edward McGowen.

Mr. McGowen served his country honorably in the US Army during the Cuban Crisis.

Surviving to cherish his memories is his devoted son, Martin McGowen and wife, Cindy of Rose Hill; his granddaughter, Ashley McGowen; brother, Lloyd McGowen and wife, Bea of Greenville, SC; sister-in-law, Evelyn Stallings McGowen of Wallace; two nieces; one nephew and numerous friends.

Hank was a caring father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly. He was an accomplished carpenter who took great pride in his work. Being a simple man, he was loved and respected by all who knew him. Hank was caring, humble and a friend to many. He was truly, without a doubt, a gift from God. All who knew Hank McGowen were truly blessed.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Macon Wood officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.

Casketbearers will be Delton Mintz, Neil McGowen, Alan Jones, Robert McGowen, Dulan Murray and Oscar Pate.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, one hour prior the funeral service at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to Watha Baptist Church, 50 Charlotte Street, Watha, NC 28478.
