Joseph Leslie West, 58, of Rocky Point passed unexpectedly from his earthly life on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at his home.

He was born December 27, 1953 in Wilmington, the son of the late James Leslie and Florrie Long West.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Sharon Harris West; son, Brian West (Allison) of Leland; daughter, Sarah Ellen West (Gary) of Rocky Point; granddaughter, Claire West; another granddaughter expected in February; brother, Harry Thomas West of Rocky Point; sisters, Aurelia Muse of Santee, SC and Patricia Bethea of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

For over 25 years Joseph was employed with Mundy companies. Being a master carpenter and handyman, Joseph worked hard and gave a hundred percent to every task he undertook.

Most important, Joseph loved his family and devoted his life to caring for them. He was known to be a wise man and set a good example for his children. Joseph was an avid outdoorsman ... enjoying hunting, gardening and being outdoors in God's beautiful world. Joseph's family is grateful to God for his life and for your kindness, friendship and prayers.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Fedoronko officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Casketbearers will be Jeff Meeks, Walter Griffin, Nick Harris, Jr., David Marshall, Brandon Cribb, Bertice Byrd and Thurston DeVane.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church, 4670 Stag Park Rd, Burgaw, NC 28425.
