Joyce "Joy" Finders, 85, of Wilmington, gained her wings on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Northchase Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born on July 16, 1938, near Belfast, Ireland, to the late Phillip and Marie (Sheridan) Megaw. At the age of 18, Joy and her mother came to the United States and soon earned her citizenship.

Joy was a very strong and independent woman who had a deep love for all animals. She was the owner-operator of Dunraven Kennels in Castle Hayne for many years. Joy loved to breed and show her Irish Wolfhounds. She was a loving wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Joy was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Finders; her sister, Gladys Richardson; and her brother-in-law, Matt Richardson.

Joy is survived by her son, Bryan Finders and wife, Donna; her daughter, Bonnie Allen and husband, David; her grandchildren, Melissa Sacknoff and husband, David, and Stephanie Daniels; and her great grandchildren, Deacon Sacknoff, Drake Sacknoff, Skyler Worrell, Mason Daniels, and Raiden Tillapaugh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a non-kill animal shelter of choice.

A visitation will be held from 1 pm – 3 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home at 315 Willow Woods Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
