Joyce Winn Mallard, 78, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

She was born on September 13, 1932 in Wilmington, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late George Copeland Winn, Jr. and Annie Mae Rivenbark Winn. Also remembered is her beloved husband, Arthur King Mallard, Jr. who died in 1997.

Mrs. Mallard is survived by her daughters, Janice H. Herrington of Columbia, South Carolina and Rosanne M. Coulter of Summerville, South Carolina; and grandsons, James Herrington, Charles Robert Herrington, Christopher Dale Coulter and Clinton George Coulter.

Joyce was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Most important in her life was her love for family. She was a true Southern lady filled with grace, kindness and thoughtfulness of others. Living a full life, Joyce enjoyed traveling, bowling, and playing bridge. She was very astute and competitive in playing board and card games. Being of a generous nature, Joyce was responsible for the placing of the granite Atkinson Cemetery sign at the entrance to the cemetery. Joyce always counted God's blessings in her life and her steadfast faith carried her through her illness and to her eternal rest.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, North Carolina with The Rev. Roy Brewton officiating.

Mrs. Mallard lived for a number of years at Franke at Seaside, a retirement community in Mount. Pleasant, South Carolina. A memorial reception will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Burgess Center Library at Franke at Seaside.
