Judy Hewitt
Cromartie
Aug 12, 1939 — Jan 6, 2014
Judy Hewitt Cromartie, 74, of Atkinson was granted her angel wings on Monday, January 6, 2014.
She was born August 12, 1939 in Davidson County, the daughter of the late Warren Eugene and Daisy Mae Sowers Hewitt. Also lovingly remembered is her sister, Gene H. DuVal.
Judy leaves behind to treasure her memory her beloved husband of 51 years, Howard W. Cromartie; daughters, Vickie Wolfe and her husband Donnie, Lane Broadway, and Susan Cromartie; son, Fred Cromartie; grandchildren, Matt Peoples, Drew Peoples and his wife Michelle, Taylor Horrell, Zach Horrell and his wife Avery, Autumn Cromartie, and Brandon Broadway; great grandchildren, Jayde Peoples, Dylan Peoples, Walker Peoples, and Harper Grace Horrell; cousin, Sally Blake; nieces, Rene` DuVal and Debbie Blankinship and her husband, Keith; nephew, Johnny DuVal; brother-in-law, H. G. Cromartie and his wife, Wanda; sister-in-law, Jane Eakins and her husband, H. T.; caring friends, Julie, Darleen, Vivian and Hazel; many extended family and friends.
Prior to moving to Wilmington in 1983, Judy owned and operated Daisy's Children and Needlework shops in Lexington. She retired from Plantation Village as director of accounting. Most recently Judy and Howard embarked on another career, owning and operating blueberry farms in Pender and Bladen Counties. Judy was a member of Caswell Presbyterian Church.
Judy loved her family above all else; always caring, always loving, always faithful to each and everyone in her family. She enriched the world in which she lived, sharing her love, talents, knowledge, humor and abilities so that all could benefit. For pure pleasure, Judy enjoyed playing bridge with her card buddies. Judy was a hard worker and was strong as she was sweet. What an honor it is that the lively, learned and loving Judy has lived among us. She leaves a wish for us to remember her not with tears, but with joy, love and faith.
A Celebration of life service for Judy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Caswell Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Roy Brewton officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
