June Elizabeth Pittman Swinson's Obituary
June Elizabeth Pittman Swinson, 62, of Currie passed gently from her earthly life on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.
She was born February 8, 1953 in Pender County, the daughter of the late English Alfred and Mary Elizabeth Squires Pittman. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Joshua McCabe and Jayden Swinson.
June is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles Glenn Swinson; daughter, Kimberly S. McCabe (Cecil); son, Kevin Swinson; grandchildren, Christina McCabe, Jessica McCabe, Brittany Swinson, Breanna Swinson, Hailey Swinson, and Brooke Swinson; sister, Elinda Crowningshield (William, Jr.); brother, Elliott Alfred Pittman; and many extended family and friends.
June was a noted historian of local history and genealogy in Pender County. For many years she served as a Library Associate for history and genealogy at Pender County Library. She also taught some courses in genealogy and local history at CFCC as her expertise in this area was very knowledgeable. June was a member of Old New Hanover Genealogical Society, Pender County Historical Society, Lower Cape Fear Genealogical Society, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Moores Creek Battleground Association.
Not only was June a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, but a true friend to many. Her nurturing manner made one feel cared for and loved. June never met a stranger wherever she went in her travels. She brought a great deal of grace, charm and light into this world. What an honor it is that the sweet, learned and loving June has lived among us.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Forest Hills Baptist Church with The Rev. Timothy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
