Karen Irene
Body
Apr 5, 1938 — Feb 5, 2024
Burgaw
Karen Irene Body, age 85, flew on wings of angels to her heavenly home on Monday, February 5, 2024 to join her beloved husband of 59 years, Ronald Body, her sons, and sisters. Karen was at her home surrounded with love by family.
She was born April 5, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Walter and Myrtle Kimmell Torgersen. In addition to her parents and husband, Karen was preceded in death by her sons, Mark Body and Randy Body; and sisters, Ardell Simia and Jan Herrera.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Body Marks and husband, Daniel; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Terry Torgersen (Toni); daughters-in-law, Christine Body-Lybbert and Leslie Body; and many extended family members. Not to be forgotten is Karen's cat, Snuggles, who never left her side during her passing.
Karen married her high school sweetheart and very best friend Ronald Body in 1958 at the age of 19 in San Diego, California. They quickly started their family and Karen stayed home to raise her three children. She kept an immaculate house and loved to bake homemade pies and other baked goods for her family. Eventually, Ron and Karen moved to Seattle, Washington where Karen found her favorite state to live. She loved the cool weather, evergreen trees and mountains. Once her kids were raised Karen went to work at the Cash Office of Frederick and Nelson in Seattle and finally got her very first driver's license! She moved from that position to various bookkeeping jobs in Seattle and San Diego when Ron and Karen moved back to San Diego where Ron finished his career. They retired to Ocean Shores, Washington where they lived out their dream by the water. They enjoyed volunteering in their community and visiting with nearby family. After Ron's passing, Karen moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter where she enjoyed the beautiful trees of the south. Besides her family, Karen had a few favorite passions over the years: she loved good wine, daily newspaper puzzles, collecting clocks, participating in volksmarch walks and loved her beautiful Himalayan and Persian cats.
There will be a family service at a later date in Washington State.
Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family by selecting Tribute Wall.
A service of Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel.
