Katie Ellen Cavenaugh Cantrell, age 85, of Wallace left this earthly life to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 27, 2014.

She was born April 2, 1928 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Daniel E and Sudie Carter Cavenaugh. She was also predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Linton Curtis Cantrell and only brother, Garland Cavenaugh.

Mrs. Cantrell was a member of Christian Fellowship Church.

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel "Danny" Cantrell and wife, Joyce of Hampstead and Gary Cantrell and wife, Christy of Wallace; grandchildren, Ashley Thompson and husband, Chris of Magnolia, Jada Ann Cantrell and Landon William Cantrell, both of Wallace; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cantrell of Wallace and very close nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly.

Katie was a devoted wife and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She found great joy in the simplest things, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Katie touched a lot of lives over the years and lived a life that glorified her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace; and to those who knew her, "an instrument of God's love on this earth." Being a friend to all, she was a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. She was a shoulder upon whom many found comfort and support. Katie will surely be missed but cherished memories of her will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be held at 5:00pm on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Billy Toler and Pastor Samuel Sumner officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 7:00pm at the church.

Graveside service will be at 2:00pm on Sunday at Cavenaugh Cemetery, NC Hwy 41, Wallace.
