Obituary

Larry Calvin Cavanaugh, 72, of Wallace and formerly of Wilmington died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Duplin General Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1937 in Pender County, the son of the late John W. and Alma Estelle Rivenbark Cavenaugh. He was predeceased by sisters, Ruth Harris and Sadie Jordan; brothers, Felton Cavenaugh and Lawrence "Sambo" Cavenaugh and niece, Geraldine Harris.

Surviving are his sister, Emily Postl (Jim) of Sterling Heights, Michigan; brothers, John Cavenaugh and Eugene Cavenaugh both of Burgaw; many beloved nephews and nieces including Tammy White and Larry's caregivers, Faye Wilson and her husband, John; and many great nieces and nephews.

Larry served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a faithful member of Mt. Holly Baptist Church. For many years he was chaplain at the Rescue Mission of Cape Fear in Wilmington.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Horace Hawes officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Rescue Mission of Cape Fear, 502 Castle St., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to Mt. Holly Baptist Church, 5551 US Hwy 117, Burgaw, NC 28425.

Larry was a man of steadfast faith who lived his life by his strong Christian beliefs and was constantly sharing the word of God with his fellowman in thought, word and deeds. He was always thinking of others and gave of his earthly goods to his beloved family and anyone in need. Cherished memories of Larry will forever remain in our hearts.
