Larry Wayne Nichols, 61, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

He was born on September 19, 1964, in New Hanover County, to the late Joseph Anson Nichols, Sr. and the late Mildred (Mills) Lanier.

He touched the hearts of everyone he met through laughter and generosity, even through all his struggles.  He would give anyone the shirt off his back, if and when he was wearing one. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and cherished friends. He was a devoted father and an adoring grandfather.  He was our youngest brother, but he made the biggest impact on us.

Larry is survived by his son, Wayne Stevens and wife, Tasha; his daughters, Kristen Nichols and husband, John, Destiny McLean and husband, Mark; his brothers, Joseph Anson Nichols, Jr., Mark Anthony Nichols; his sisters, Deborah Nichols, Pamela Turley and husband, Paul; his grandchildren, Drake, Mason, Landen, Kinley, D.J.; his beloved pup, Little Man; and a host of other family and friends.

The family would like to thank Judy Cox and the entire staff of Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their compassion and care.

A celebration of Life will take place at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Red Hill Pentecostal Church in Delco with Rev. Calvin Malpass officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at the Ellis-Peterson Cemetery.
