Laura Leonard Smitley, 55, passed quickly and all too soon from her earthly life on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 14, 1962 in Rose Hill, the daughter of John E. Leonard, Sr. and Betty Mae Bain Leonard.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her daughters, Marilyn J. Smitley and Melissa Micheal Smitley; son, William "Billy" Michael Smitley; granddaughter, Victoria Vanfosson; sisters, Debbie Sewell (Wesley), Joy Seale (Bill), and Beth Lunsford (Harold); brother, John E. Leonard, Jr. and wife, Julie; a very special friend, Edward Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura was a NC licensed Bail Bondsman and worked for Powell Bail Bond Company.

She was a great mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who loved her family dearly. Laura was loved and will be greatly missed.

There will be a family gathering at a later date.
