Lawrence "Larry" Allan Willenborg, age 59, of Jacksonville, NC passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

He was born on September 20, 1964 in Effingham, IL to the late Modestus Joseph Willenborg and Genevieve Madonna Koester Willenborg.

Larry, an Iraq War veteran, retired from the Marine Corps after twenty years of service. He enjoyed cooking BBQ and made the best in town.  Larry loved being on the water and he was always seeking adventure. He was very ambitious, family oriented, and a self-less person who would give you the shirt off his back. Larry was always caring and giving his full support to his family and friends. He travelled often and made friends wherever he went. He was a bright light to many people, and he will be dearly missed.

Larry is survived by his son, Nichlas Willenborg; daughter, Angelina Willenborg; brothers, Dennis Willenborg (Janet) and Gary Willenborg (Tammy); sister, Betty Sweet (John); many nieces and nephews; countless friends; and his Marine Corps family.

Funeral Services will be arranged by Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL at a later date. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham, IL.
