Obituary

Leona Murray Teachey Kelley, age 79, of Wallace, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 6, 2014.

She was born May 17, 1935 in Duplin County where she lived her entire life. She was the daughter of the late John Ivy and Minnie Deleane Brown Murray. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Billy Teachey and their 2 babies; her second husband of 6 years, James "Fluff" Kelley, brother, Albert Murray, sister-in-law, Ethel Murray and nephew, Johnny Murray.

Leona worked for 35 years at the Wallace Sewing Company and spent additional time as a housekeeper to numerous families in Duplin County. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was active in the Gideon Ministry. She was a faithful member of Poston Baptist Church where she cherished singing in the choir and also spending many years in the kitchen preparing meals for church events.

Survivors include her loving niece, Deleane Murray Duff and husband, Terry of the home; special great-nieces, Amy Murray Price and husband, Justin, April Jones and husband, Brian and Nicki Martinez and husband, Mario; great- nephews, Brendle Murray and wife, Sara and Brandon Murray and wife, Kelly; numerous other great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Deal; 11 great-great nieces and nephews; two stepsons, James Kelley and wife,
Nancy; Larry Kelley and wife, Betty; one stepdaughter, Emily Carr and husband, Billy; 8 step grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren; 6 step great-great-grandchildren and numerous great cousins. She also had two very special friends, Kathleen Caldwell and Centelle Hardison.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Mrs. April Duff Jones and the Reverend George "Buster" Price officiating.

Burial will follow in Brice Family Cemetery, Wallace.

Casketbearers will be Brandon Murray, Brendle Murray, Donald Teachey, Mike Teachey, Floyd Kelley and Ricky Kelley.

The family will receive friends from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday night at the funeral home and other times at the home of Terry and Deleane Duff.

Leona's family would like to especially thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Vidant-Duplin Medical Center for their loving care during Leona's illness.

Burial will follow in Brice Family Cemetery, Wallace.

Visitation will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday night at the funeral home.
