Lester Frank Fussell, Sr., age 81, of Burgaw died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 29, 1926 in Duplin County, the son of the late Lester Melvin and Gertrude Matthews Fussell. He was also preceded in death by sister, Grace Sasser and brother, William M. Fussell.
Mr. Fussell retired from Four County EMC in 1989, completing a 39 year career. During WW II, Frank served his country proudly in the US Navy. He was a faithful member of Burgaw Presbyterian Church having served as a deacon, elder and church treasurer. He was a member of the VFW as well as past member of the Burgaw Jaycees and Burgaw Volunteer Fire Department. Frank was true to his family, a loyal friend, an avid golfer and served his church and his community unceasingly.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sara Rouse Fussell of the home; sons, Frank Fussell, Jr. and wife, Holly of Longwood, FL and Kenneth Hayes Fussell of Hampstead; grandchildren, Joshua Fussell and Kimberly Lonander and husband, Hans; great grandchildren, Elora Lonander and Isaac Lonander; sister, Helen Sholar of Wallace; sister-in-law, Jean D. Fussell of Rose Hill and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Burgaw Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Burgaw Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating.
Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Hans Lonander, Dudley Rouse, Chris Tinker, Tom Waltz, Kurt Lonander, and Lennart Lonander.
Honorary bearers will be the men's Sunday School Class of Burgaw Presbyterian Church.
Memorial gifts may be given to Burgaw Presbyterian Church, PO 565, Burgaw, NC 28425 or to the charity of one's choice.
