Lillian Christine Whaley Hanchey, age 92, of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from the Brian Center of Wallace.

She was born October 1, 1925 in Pender County and was the daughter of the late David Austin and Rena Wells Whaley. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Horace F. "Sambo" Hanchey, Sr.; siblings, Harvey L. Whaley, Vera W. Ezzell, Lelma W. Page, Horace D. Whaley and David A. Whaley, Jr and daughter-in-law, Patricia "Pat" Hanchey.

Surviving to cherish her memory, are her devoted children, Connie H. Boone and husband Ronnie of Wallace, Bo Hanchey and wife Linda of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, Johnny Hanchey of Wallace, Sandra H. Cavanaugh and husband Sammy of Wallace, and Dana Hanchey and wife Myrna of Wallace; grandchildren, Tina B. Nestor and husband Craig, Hollie B. Humphreys and husband Chris, Margie Hanchey, Hugh Hanchey and wife Abbie, Fayth H. Herring and husband Chris, Alanna Hanchey, Vada Cavanaugh and Austin Cavanaugh; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Peggy L. Hanchey and numerous nieces and nephews.

A family graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Hanchey Family Cemetery, Wallace, NC with Reverend Daniel Garrison officiating.

Christine was a devoted wife and caring mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a kind and caring lady who worked hard alongside her husband throughout the years to provide for her family. Mrs. Hanchey was a faithful member of Bethel Wesleyan Church. She was a great example of the woman in Proverbs 31… "her children arise and call her blessed." Christine will surely be missed but cherished memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
