Obituary

Linda Smith Cole, age 76, of Burgaw, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Wilmington, Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Born December 27, 1947, in New Jersey the daughter of Benjamin Smith and Beatrice Foy Smith.

In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her brother, Gattis Lee Smith Sr.

She leaves a memory to be cherished by her husband and best friend of 59 years, Morris "Sonny" Cole Jr., children, Lisa Lennert (Dennis), Teresa McDonough (John), Michelle Batson (Wayne), David Dean Cole (Rebecca); grandchildren, Courtney Lennert, Cole Lennert, Madison Gilbert, Jenna Gilbert, Christopher Batson, Danny Batson, Skylar Rock (Dylan), Brooklynn Koonce, Taylor Koonce, Presley Cole and Kennedy Cole; her greatgrandchild, Si'ylah Evans; sisters, Maxine King, and Phyllis Brown; and many friends.

Linda was a woman of faith and loved God. Along with her family, she loved her large circle of friends, her church and her community. She was a woman with many talents, a successful businesswoman, thoughtful, resourceful, resilient, hospitable, strong, and encouraging. She had a servant's heart and the biggest part of her heart was felt through her cooking. She was a natural in the kitchen and created delicious meals and desserts. Family and friends will miss her 3rd Sunday lunch celebrations and the feast of food that she carefully planned and prepared each month. She was also a talented gardener, seamstress and known to make beautiful clothing and costumes. Linda, we all love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck as you are one special lady!

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw and a Celebration of Life service to follow the next day, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Fontana officiating. Linda loved bright and happy colors so please consider wearing something  colorful to her visitation and to Linda's Celebration of Life.
