Linda Simmons Floyd, age 56, of Wilmington passed gently from her earthly life to her peaceful eternal home on Friday, January 13, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 11, 1955 in Scotland County and was the daughter of the late Alquest Simmons, Sr. and Evon Smith Simmons.

Linda is survived by her devoted family; her husband of 38 years, David S. Floyd, Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Hagan Blake of Burgaw and Kimberly and Andrew Smith of Buford, GA; grandchildren, Taylor Blake, Christopher Blake, Thomas Smith and Clara Smith; sister, Cathy Shearer and her husband, Chuck, of Erwin, TN; brother, Al Simmons, Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Wilmington; aunt, Glenda Smith and her husband, Jerry, of Wilmington; many extended family and friends.

Linda loved with all of her heart and her radiant smile brightened the life of everyone she knew. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and the joys of her life were her grandchildren. Filled with kindness, compassion, joy and laughter, Linda welcomed everyone she met into her circle of extended family members and friends. She was a gift to this world and loved by so many. For the past ten years Linda's Christian faith and courage has sustained her as she fought a valiant battle with her lung disease. Linda truly leaves a legacy of faith, love and hope. Linda's family is grateful for all acts of kindness and prayers that have lent them support during her illness. We thank God, our Heavenly Father, for the gift of family and friends and pray His eternal blessings to all.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 at Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington with The Rev. Rudy Shepard officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday at 1:00 p.m. until hour of the service.

Entombment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum. Casketbearers will be Nathan Simmons, David Rooks, Hagan Blake, Andrew Smith, David Smith and Michael Carlisle.

Memorial gifts in loving memory of Linda may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
