Obituary

Linda Kay Batson Rivenbark, age 75, passed gently from her earthly life Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born December 12, 1947 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Ellis Sherwood Batson and Virginia Walker Batson. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Maynor.

Linda is survived by her beloved children-daughters, Jan Willoughby Richardson and husband, Brian and Cindy Newkirk and husband, Desi; son, Jay Willoughby and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Brandon Ward, Joey Horne (Kadejah), Krystal Gurganious, Samantha Gurganious, Craven Blansett (Jessica), Cooper Blansett Davis, Brison Richardson, and Gage Richardson; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Debbie Garriss (Allen); brothers, Sherwood Batson and Jerry Batson (Penny); numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Not to be forgotten is Bella, her furry companion always at her side.

Linda was known as and lovingly called "the neighborhood MOM" as through the years she had a positive influence on many children in her community. Even till this day when met on the street or in a store one would call out to her "Mama Linda." She was a big giver all her life. Linda found joy spending time at the beach, fishing, and road trips to the mountains. Another thing she enjoyed was gardening, both in her flowers and vegetable garden. She had a green thumb. Linda was loved by many!! Some of her defining characteristics were her kindness, generosity, compassion, and awe-inspiring love for God. She had the sweetness of sugar with a quick humorous wit. You could always count on her. If you needed something she was there to help. She knew how to make someone smile. Linda was loved and will be greatly missed.
