Lindsay Edward Benton, Jr., age 73, of Burgaw died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at his home.

He was born September 29, 1934 in Wilmington, the son of Lois Williams Benton of Wilmington and the late Lindsay Edward Benton, Sr. He was also predeceased by his brother, Dale Benton.

Mr. Benton proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Pine Valley Church of God. Ed was a hard working man who loved his family and along with his wife always provided for his family's needs. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of forty-eight years, Mary Ellen White Benton of the home; sons, Lindsay E. Benton III and wife, Faye, of Lumberton and Jonathan Thomas "Tommy" Benton and wife, Kim, of Burgaw; grandchildren, Justin Yopp, Brittany Benton, Jennifer Benton, Jonathan T. Benton, Jr., Morgan Benton and Katelyn Benton; brother, Kenneth H. Benton of Wilmington; and sisters, Annette Phelps of Castle Hayne and Frances Cash of Burgaw.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Richard Williford and The Rev. Vernon Adams officiating.

Burial will follow in Delco Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Jon Benton, Kenneth Benton, Allen Hamilton, Doug Benton, Kenneth Padgett, and Jimmie Daughtry.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
