Lola Pollard
Larson
Dec 4, 1910 — Sep 19, 2014
Lola Pollard Larson, 103, of Wallace left this life for her eternal rest on Friday, September 19, 2014 from Golden Care Rest Home.
She was born on December 4, 1910 in Onslow County and was the last of 10 children born to the late Benjamin Joseph and Harriet Elizabeth Stanley Pollard. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest M. Larson and her siblings, Grover Pollard, Gertrude Brown, Nina Dexter, Joseph Eth Pollard, Elmon Pollard, Jerome Pollard, Adee Pollard and a set of twins.
Mrs. Larson was a dedicated member of Seagate Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Women's Circle group. When she moved to Wallace Lola attended Bethel Wesleyan Church as long as her health permitted.
Surviving is her loving and devoted daughter, Peggy L. Hanchey of Wallace; grandchildren, Rodney Hanchey, Jr., June Hanchey, Karen Ribeiro and husband Donald, Vicki Phillips and husband Keith; and Christopher Mobley; great grandchildren, Jennifer Chestnutt and husband Brandon, Kimberly Mobley and fiancé Jordan Pope, Kelly Mobley, Jessica Oakes and husband Kyle, Sarah Davis and husband Jon, Joshua Ribeiro, Courtney Phillips and Aaron Phillips; great- great granddaughters, Emma Chestnutt and Bryleigh Chestnutt; great-great grandson, Kamden Oakes, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved Lola dearly.
Lola was a loving mother and caring grandmother and sister. She was a hard working woman who loved to garden and could grow the best vegetables ever. Before moving to Wallace she was known to have the biggest garden on Oleander Drive in Wilmington. Lola loved seafood and pickles; but she was known for her famous delicious lemon pies. Born many years ago, Lola experienced a lot of changes in the world. She was born and raised on what is known today as Camp Lejeune Marine Corp Base. Her family owned the land until the US government purchased it and made it a base for the US Marines. Lola then moved to Wilmington where she lived her life until moving to Wallace with her daughter, Peggy. She was a simple woman who was not afraid of hard work. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Lola.
